Fouquieria splendens

Ocotillo

An upright thorny shrub with long branches that radiate from a central base. Small bright green leaves line the branches after rains, or with regular irrigation. Tubular flowers attract hummingbirds and can appear again after summer rains. Nursery grown plants are now widely available and are more reliable than the previous bare root ones.
