Sabal palmetto

Sabal Palm

A medium large palm with an elegant form, single trunk and full round canopy of fan-shaped leaves that may reach up to 6ft long. A very slow growing palm, it is suggested to buy a tree as large as you can to start off. Young trees will give the appearance of fronds sticking straight out of the ground, but will eventually develop a large trunk. Occasionally, their trunks will form unique curves that can be quite beautiful.

  • Also known as a Cabbage Palm, which comes from its edible immature leaves, or heart, which has a cabbage-like flavor
  • Height: 30-40 ft
  • Spread: 10-12 ft
